Now That I Am 50

Preview

Turning 50 has been a profound milestone in my life, prompting me to reflect deeply on my journey as a fitness professional, health, and hormone coach. As I step into this next chapter, I've become more aware than ever of the importance of focusing on health and wellness. This awareness has led to shifts in how I approach my own well-being, and as always I would love to share these insights with you.

Less Is More

Gone are the days of thinking the answer to my goals is another hardcore workout or cutting calories back. Instead, I'm embracing the philosophy that less is more. This doesn't mean doing less; it means doing what's right for our bodies. It’s about selecting the right exercises, variety in my workouts incorporating self care and mindfulness so I am tuning into to what my body needs and nourishing our bodies with the right balance of fresh foods from nature, spending time in the kitchen creating wholesome meals.

Variety of workouts:

  • Cardio for a Healthy Heart: Engaging in regular cardiovascular activities supports heart health. I love my rebounder, my walking pad and getting outside

  • Resistance Training: Vital for maintaining muscle mass, especially as we age.

  • Yoga and Meditation: Essential for reducing stress and balancing hormones.

  • Blend workouts: I often blend workouts together so I do not get bored. I just posted a cardio barre to my online workouts and often have yoga/pilates fusion or yoga sculpt online classes to keep things fresh.

  • Try something new: I make it a point to try a new class or style of workout at least once a month. I have a list!

Whole Living

A significant shift I've embraced is focusing on whole living. This involves choosing foods that are as close to their natural state as possible, with an emphasis on:

  • Lean Proteins: Supporting muscle and overall health. I sneak more into recipes as much as I can. Coming soon how to get in more protein blog. Subcribe to my mailing list today.

  • Fresh Fruits and Vegetables: Providing essential vitamins and minerals, fiber, hydration and they fill you up, helping you crowd out the bad stuff

  • Crowding Out Processed Foods: Creating room for nutritious, whole foods in my diet helps crowd out the temptation for the not so good stuff. Prepping your food, even your snacks can help you naturally eat healthier!

Sleep, Meditation, and Self-Care

I’ve realized the importance of not burning the candle at both ends. Prioritizing sleep, journaling, mindfulness, and meditation have become cornerstones of my routine. This focus helps in reducing cortisol levels and managing stress, which in turn improves overall health and hormone balance. When we age and go through peri menopause and menopause our estrogen and progesterone lower and our cortisol rises which increases stress and can even wire us for stress. We have to balance that with stress reducing routine to lower stress so it does not become chronic which can lead to our bodies holding onto weight, anxiousness and poor sleep. I have a daily morning and evening routine that helps me take care of myself and support myself through this change.

Seeking Support

Part of embracing this new chapter is acknowledging the importance of seeking support and guidance when needed. Letting go of guilt about self-care is crucial. It’s okay to ask for help and take the time needed to care for oneself. If your like me you have likely spend a lot of time taking care of others and it is time for you to give back to yourself. Take time to ask yourself what you need and follow through on it! No one is going to give you permission to take care of yourself but you! I created a health coaching group designed for jut that called the busy women’s health coaching group. We support each other in moving towards a healthier happier self!

Happiness and Gratitude

Although it may seem evident, prioritizing happiness is frequently neglected. To positively influence the world around us, we must first cultivate our own happiness. Just like putting on your life jacket before assisting others, you must take care of yourself before you can truly help anyone else.

Gratitude plays a significant role in this journey. By embracing gratitude, we not only acknowledge the good in our lives but also enhance our overall well-being. Practicing gratitude can lead to increased happiness, improved relationships, and a more optimistic outlook on life. It helps us appreciate the present, fostering a sense of contentment and joy. When we regularly express gratitude, we nurture a positive environment that encourages both personal growth and the ability to support others effectively.
