Put it down on paper!

Hello, summer! It brings me joy to say that! I love getting outside and embracing nature. Today, I’m excited to share a secret with you: I health coach myself. At the start of each month, I write down my goals, treating it like a mini New Year. This helps me release any setbacks and start fresh. I use an old-fashioned paper calendar to jot down everything—workouts, meals, and goals. It may look chaotic, but I love it! This method keeps me motivated and accountable.

In today's world of fancy apps and wearable tech, I've found an unlikely ally in my pursuit of health and wellness: an old-fashioned paper calendar. Yes, you read that right. I use a paper calendar to health coach myself, and it's been a game-changer. This small but mighty practice has helped me and has helped many of my clients in creating a healthy living routine that sticks!

Why? Because it's tangible, visible, and unforgiving. Let me explain.

The Method: Calendar as Coach

My approach is simple. I sit down at the beginning of the week and map out my week on paper.

  • Workouts: I schedule my workouts like I would an appointment with a client. I write down the kind of workout, how long and I check it off after I complete it. Whether it is an online workout, a run, or meditation its on my calendar.

  • Meal Plan: I plan my meals for the week in advance and write them in the calendar. This proactive approach reduces the chances of impulsive unhealthy choices. I prepare my snacks, my meals and plan out each day to avoid being unprepared.

  • Sleep and Rest: Sleep is often overlooked, but it's crucial for overall health. I go to bed at the same time every night and have a nightly routine to keep me on track. I also get up early to meditate, journal and set my intention for the day.

The Accountability Factor

The beauty of the paper calendar lies in its brutal honesty. There's no hiding from a missed workout or a day of unhealthy eating when it's staring back at you in black and white. As days like this do happen it allows me to get right back on track. I do not beat myself up for days like these because I know I will begin the next day in a healthy way and recommit to myself and my healthy journey. Now I do love wearables, and use them like everyone else but there is something about writing things down that is especially meaningful.

This method also forces me to engage with my health goals more actively. The act of physically writing everything down makes me more mindful of my choices. It's a far cry from passively glancing at an app.

No One Is Coming to Save You
This quote by Mel Robbins encapsulates the core reason why my paper calendar health coaching works for me: 'No one is coming to save you.'
It's a harsh truth, but a liberating one. I realize that my health and well-being are my responsibility, and mine alone. While I appreciate the support of loved ones, ultimately, it's up to me to make the choices that lead to a healthier life. My paper calendar helps me stay true to that commitment. It is my promise to myself.

If you're looking for a simple, effective, and surprisingly powerful way to improve your healthy living routine try this method. I have helped many clients reach there goals through simple but powerful methods like this! I love how this approach helps with accountability, and highlights the importance of personal responsibility in achieving wellness goals.
